American rapper, Chance The Rapper has readied himself for a trip to Ghana as part of the Year of Return initiative.
The
move, according to social media sources, was fueled by rapper
Sarkodie’s speech at this year’s BET where he urged the African
Americans community in the United States of America to take a trip to
Ghana after winning the Best International Flow category.
In
his acceptance speech, Sarkodie dedicated the award to his daughter,
Adalyn Owusu Addo (Titi), and also used the moment to urge the world
to visit Ghana as part of the Year
of Return celebrations
being championed by Ghana’s Ministry of Tourism.
I
just want to say thank you to the Almighty God. To family, this one
is for my lil girl Titi…. I think Africa has always had it and it
is about that time. This year is the Year of Return and I will urge
each and every one of you here to take a trip back home,”
he said after receiving his award.
Many
people believe it’s that speech at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts
Centre in Georgia, which has intrigued Chance The Rapper to take the
step to visit African soil, especially as he added the hashtag
“#HipHopAwards” to cement the fact.
